Proposed Changes to ReadyBike

Closed 30 Sep 2016

Opened 29 Aug 2016

Overview

To consult on the proposal to no longer subsidise ReadyBike with effect from 14th June 2017.

Why your views matter

Reading Borough Council launched the public bike scheme ReadyBike, in June 2014, consisting of 200 bikes at 29 locations throughout Reading. The Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund grant covered the initial costs in setting up and operating ReadyBike until March 2016. Ongoing operating costs for ReadyBike have since been funded through Reading Borough Council resources whilst sponsorship deals have been sought. However to date we have been unable to secure sponsorship.

As a result of significant cuts to Reading Borough Council’s budgets we propose to stop subsidising ReadyBike with effect from 14th June 2017.

We will continue to seek sponsorship options alongside this consultation.

What we are consulting on?

The proposed change is to remove the Reading Borough Council subsidy for ReadyBike which would result in the need to close down the scheme from June 2017 if other sources of funding for the scheme cannot be secured.

Sponsorship options will continue to be investigated alongside this consultation.
The closing date for this consultation is Friday 30th September 2016. Please make sure you respond by then.

What we are proposing

We are seeking views on our proposal to remove the existing ReadyBike subsidy whilst continuing our search for ReadyBike sponsorship.
