Active Travel Fund: Bath Road - Castle Hill Consultation

Overview

As set out in our Transport Strategy 2036, we want to make Reading a great place to live, work, study and play. Our vision is to develop a sustainable transport system that creates an attractive, green and vibrant town with neighbourhoods that promote healthy choices and wellbeing.

We’ve secured more than £2.5 million through the Government’s Active Travel Fund to help us achieve this.

As well as helping to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of everyone in Reading, these proposals are designed to support the local economy and help tackle the Climate Emergency.

About this consultation

We undertook an initial engagement exercise last year on four proposals around Reading. Your feedback showed our scheme for Shinfield Road was the most supported and we are now taking this forward. The second most supported scheme was the Bath Road - Castle Hill scheme and Reading Borough Council has now been awarded funding to deliver this scheme.

Bath Road/Castle Hill (Berkeley Avenue – Inner Distribution Road (IDR)/Castle Street)

This scheme will deliver a mostly segregated cycle facility in each direction, including a segregated facility across the IDR junction, achieved by reallocating some highway capacity currently dedicated for general traffic. There will also be improvements to junctions and crossing facilities along the route for pedestrians. If you haven’t already, please look at our plans for the Bath Road - Castle Hill scheme:
