Winning Design for Kenavon Drive Play Area

We are happy to announce the winning design for the refurbishment of the children’s playground at Kenavon Drive, Option 1 by Kompan. A public consultation of three shortlisted proposals ran from 22 November to 16 December 2021, allowing residents to vote for their preferred option. The winning design, Option 1 by Kompan, received 60% of the vote.

The complete replacement and enlargement of the playground, including a new and exciting mix of equipment, is part of a wider £100k investment scheme. The winning design includes an inclusive swing unit , toddler and junior multi-units, a 4-user seesaw, an inclusive roundabout, ‘Spica’ spin equipment, a 4-way springer, three play panels and a communication panel. The design also benefits from bright coloured floor markings.

Work is expected to be complete by Summer 2022.

Overview

Reading Borough Council is inviting residents to have their say and vote on their preferred design for the refurbishment and improvement of Kenavon Drive Play Area.

Kenavon Drive Play Area is benefiting from £100k s106 investment as part of a wider scheme of improvement works.

The complete replacement and enlargement of this playground means it will benefit from new multi-units for all children, toddlers and juniors, a combination swing unit, play panels and a see-saw. Each scheme has its own additional mix of single items of play equipment which provide varied play value. There will also be new surfacing and floor graphics.

Improvements to the land around the playground and nearby the riverside also form part of the consultation. Proposed improvements to landscaping include bulb and meadow planting, tree works and new tree planting. Residents are invited to submit their comments on the proposed landscaping design.

The public consultation will run from 22 November 2021 to 16 December 2021.

What happens next

This public consultation has now closed (16th December 2021). The winning design for the refurbishment of Kenavon Drive Play Area will be announced in December 2021. The winning design will be available to view here. Work is expected to be complete by Summer 2022.
