Reading Green Park Station is a new railway station on the Reading to Basingstoke line. The station and multi-modal interchange will significantly improve accessibility and connectivity to this area of south Reading which has large-scale development proposed including the expansion of Green Park business park, Green Park Village residential development and the Royal Elm Park mixed use development.
The implementation of rail facilities will help to alleviate queues on the busy A33 and lead to an increase in uptake of this sustainable transport mode. This can lead to a reduction in motor-vehicle journeys, particularly short local journeys, which can be some of the most polluting, improving air quality by reducing emissions.
The new station will deliver major benefits to residents living in the south of Reading, businesses at Green Park and supporters of Reading FC. The new station will be an integral part of Reading’s sustainable transport infrastructure with more homes, businesses and leisure developments planned in the south of the borough. It will also be another option for football fans heading to Madejski on match days, again taking the pressure off our busy roads.
The new station It will significantly improve accessibility to the south Reading area where large-scale development is taking place, including the expansion of Green Park Business Park and Green Park Village.
We are now carrying out statutory consultation on the following proposals:
Implementation of No Waiting No Loading At Any Time
We are proposing no waiting no loading at any time (double yellow lines) along Flagstaff Road (within the transport interchange) to protect the highways from illegal parking between taxi rank and the bus stop.
Implementation of Prohibition Of Vehicles Except Bus, Cycle And Authorised Vehicles Only
We are proposing a bus gate through the one-way system, once you approach to the Reading Green Park Station where only buses and authorised vehicles can go through and is "shown by appropriate signage". We are seeking to remove through traffic in the one-system to improve reliability in public transport services, as well as ease congestion.
Implementation of A Bus Stand No Stopping Except Buses At Any Time
We are implementing a bus stop, just right outside the Station entrance. These are bays restricted for use by vehicles that are defined as buses - which could include a coach or a minibus.
Implementation of No Waiting At Any Time Taxis
The implementation of this taxi rank will be operating at all times. The aim of this bay will be to provide a dedicated area for Hackney cars and Private Hire Vehicles to operate services, conflict free with other road users.
Implementation of Short and Long Stay Car Parks
The amenity of the area will be improved with vehicles being parked in a more orderly. The proposals will optimize parking, users find the best spot available, saving time, resources, and effort. Reduced traffic, traffic flow increases as fewer cars are required to drive around in search of an open parking space and it will help to reduced pollution
Implementation of No Stopping Except Disabled Badge Holders At Any Time. Maximum stay 24 Hours. No Return Within 2hrs.
We have designed a total of 12 disabled bays. Disabled bays will be clearly marked as individual bays with suitable road markings in each bay. Any driver correctly displaying a valid Blue Badge can park in these bays. The purpose of the disabled parking space is to help to find a suitable space and be able to park closer to the Station entrance.
Implementation of Motorcycles bays
Two dedicated spaces will be provided for Motorcycles within the Long Stay Car Park.
Implementation of Rail Parking Permits
Three dedicated spaces will be provided for the use of Rail Industry organisations, railway companies and organisations who work across the industry Rail Delivery Group, displaying a valid Rail Industry Permit
