As set out in our Transport Strategy 2036, we want to make Reading a great place to live, work, study and play. Our vision is to develop a sustainable transport system that creates an attractive, green and vibrant town with neighbourhoods that promote healthy choices and wellbeing.
We’ve secured more than £1 million through the Government’s Active Travel Fund to help us achieve this.
As well as helping to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of everyone in Reading, these proposals are designed to support the local economy and help tackle the Climate Emergency.
About this formal consultation
We undertook an initial engagement exercise earlier this year on four proposals around Reading. Your feedback showed the Shinfield Road scheme was the most supported and least opposed, so this is the scheme we are taking forward.
We have used your feedback to develop our design of the scheme further. For example, we have included raised entry treatments on side roads where it is possible, in order to improve the safety of crossing pedestrians and cyclists. We have also included a new crossing facility near to the Chancellors Way junction to improve access to the bus stop for university students and staff.
We anticipate there will be future funding opportunities that we can use to develop the schemes that have not been taken forward to this consultation.
If you haven’t already, please look at our plans for the Shinfield Road scheme:
Further details can be found on our dedicated Active Travel webpage.
We want to hear your views on our walking and cycling proposals along Shinfield Road. Your feedback will be vital in helping to shape the design of the scheme further before it is developed next year.
This survey will close at 23:59 on Monday 6 December 2021
Alternative formats: If you require any of the engagement material in an alternative format, please email: transport@reading.gov.uk
We are holding a drop-in event where you will be able to view our proposals and speak to members of the project team. This will be held on Tuesday 16 November 2021 between 15:30 and 19:30, at the University of Reading’s Sports Park Pavilion, RG6 6AH.
