Jacksons Corner: proposed accessibility alterations

Closed 31 Aug 2023

Opened 10 Aug 2023

Overview

Proposed alterations to the highway layout have been agreed as part of the planning permissions at Jacksons Corner, situated to the north-east of the junction with Kings Road and High Street. These were carried forward by the original planning permission 141713 and the implemented planning permission 160849.

The alterations include widening of the narrow footway width on the northern side of Kings Road, reversal of the one-way traffic direction along Abbey Square, increased provision and relocation of bus stops and provision of on-street loading bays. These changes necessitate alterations to existing waiting restrictions.

The developer has provided Reading Borough Council with funding to deliver these alterations, which it is required to do by 31 March 2024, should these changes be approved for implementation.

These alterations are intended to improve pedestrian accessibility along the footway and improve access to public transport. A drawing showing these proposed alterations can be viewed at the bottom of this page.
